WHAT THE BALTIC STATES IS?

Latvia

   Latvia lies on the Eastern coast of the Baltic Sea, in between Estonia to the North, Lithuania to the South and Russia and Belarus to the East. It is a 64600 sq. km big land of forests, plains, lakes, river valleys and white sandy beaches. The population is about 2.35 millions persons, about one third of them lives in the capital city Riga and its surroundings. The official language is Latvian. Russian is widely spoken; English is increasingly used as a second or third language.
   Currency 1 Lat (LVL)=100 santims. 1Lat = 1.55 € Average annual GDP growth since 1996 has been 5.6% with average inflation less than 3%. In 2001, exports to the EU represented 61% of total Latvian exports, and EU supplied 53% of Latvia's imports. Wood and wood products, textiles and base metals, which are mostly low value added goods, make up 60% of total Latvian exports.

   Estonia is a country of thousand lakes and forests cover around half of the country area which is 45 227 sq. km. Estonia got a sea border of 768.6 km and a land border of 676.8 km. Total population is 1.36 million, the proportion of urban is 67.4%
   The capital of Estonia is Tallinn - population 398.4 thousand or 29.2% of total population.
   The official language in Estonia is Estonian along with Finnish, English, Russian and German are also widely spoken and understood. The Estonian currency is kroon (EEK), 1 Kroon = 100 sents. 1 EUR = 15.64 EEK. Average GDP growth is 6.0% with inflation less than 3%.

   Lithuania lies in the eastern Europe, on the coast of the Baltic Sea. In the north Lithuania borders with Latvia, in the east and south with Byelorussia, in the south-west with Poland and with the Kaliningrad region of the Russian Federation. The Territory of Lithuanian is 65200 sq. km. The population is 3.73 million. Capital of Lithuania is Vilnius. The length of sea coastline is 99km.
   Of all the Lithuanians, 65.6 % live in towns. Currency - Litas (LTL), equal to 100 Lithuanian cents. The Litas is currently pegged, under a Currency Board system, to the USD at a rate of 3:1 GDP grow in 2002 was 6,7% with inflation 0,3%.
